A well crafted call-to-action, or more commonly referred to as CTA, can mean the difference between a bounce and a conversion. This simple, yet incredibly important tool, is one of your most valuable assets for turning visitors into leads. It’s what maximizes your landing pages, while seamlessly maximizing your returns. However, this is under assumption that you have an effective CTA on your hands. Find out how you can start increasing your click-through-rates with these simple tips.


1.) Show and Tell

Great words or great visuals alone are not the keys to success when it comes to building effective calls-to-action. Rather, you need to focus on providing both. Select eye-catching colors and bolded letters to make your ad pop, and spend time carefully crafting your words. You only have a few seconds (if that) to grab someone’s attention, make it worth their while.


2.) Keep it Brief

Whenever you’re in the process of writing a CTA, there is one thing that you’ll want to keep in mind, and that’s keeping it brief. You should aim to have no more than 5 words per ad. The reality is that visitors are only going to take a quick scan around your page, they’re not going to stay and read an entire book. (unless they want to of course). Don’t make things harder than they need to be, keep it short.


3.) Focus On the Action

An effective call-to-action also includes action oriented verbs. Having flashbacks to grade school grammar? Don’t worry, it’s not that scary. Presentation is everything, well, when it comes to your ads at least. While there is no one general rule here, you should focus on developing CTAs that are easy to find, but also blend into the page. You don’t want to look like you’re spamming everyone, but you also don’t want to make your ads difficult to find. After all, do you really like visiting a site with obnoxious ads everywhere? Probably not. So, morale of the story, make your ads known, but also make sure that they’re not too distracting either.


5.) Make Changes Individually

Even if you make the best CTA in the world, there is one thing that you must always keep in mind, and that’s never forgetting to reassess and test. However, before you go start making any wild changes, you’ll want to narrow in on what you’re altering. It is recommended that you only makes changes one at a time per ad. Why? This way, you can more effectively measure your results. If you change too many factors, you won’t have a clear idea on what’s effective and what’s not.
